Date day

A few years back, I gave Sean a jar that had date ideas on them.  It’s been a lot of fun going through them.  We purpose to have a date day once a month.  It doesn’t always happen, but I sure do cherish the times that we get to go.  There were even quite a few home dates in the jar so those were good during the pandemic when everything was closed down!  We also do a Sunday evening date after the kids are down - usually a movie or a game, chocolate, and coffee!

So the date picked out of the jar this time was to have a mini road trip within an hour of home.  So Sean planned the date, BUT we didn’t have enough time to do it and get back in time to let the babysitter go home so we went to plan B.  Plan A was a scavenger hunt in Milwaukee.  Plan B was Racine.  But he had no idea what we would do there so we winged it.  God had such a good day planned for us!  We went to a jewelry store first to get his watch sized and a new back for my diamond earring, but the first place couldn’t help us, but they sent us to another jewelry store and this place did help us.  While Sean was in there I googled things to do in Racine and found the zoo.  When Sean got back in the car, he googled restaurants and found one, which happened to be less than a mile from where we were - the Blue Bear I think.  Any way, they had local organic ingredients and the food was good.  It’s amazing when God just maps it all out.  :)

Then we headed over to the zoo, which was 10 minutes from the restaurant.  It was small, but perfect for an hour walk and we got to see everything.  It was a gorgeous day, too, really feels like fall, my favorite season.

We headed to Dunkin on our way home and I got a pumpkin spice latte, it was delicious!!

These dates are so important for our marriage and for my overall well being!  It reenergizes me and it’s good for our relationship with our children.  I’m already ready for next month’s!

The kids were a little jealous when we got home and shared pictures of where we ended up going.  Zebras are Hunter’s faves.

Addison’s fave - penguins
Ryan loves turtles

Funny picture of the rhinos when you goggle the zoo, not saying you have to go there though.  It’s not G rated.

Sean’s fave!  There is a house across the street from the zoo that can see the giraffes and Lake Michigan from their second story.

Giraffe selfie.  They were pacing and we kept running back and forth trying to get them in the picture with us.
At lunch.  We had a buddy on date with us.  :)
We also had lots of laughs on this date.  Including seeing this sign.  A bar.  Next to the playground.  And they sell rum buckets.  We don’t drink anymore, but we had a good laugh about it.  I’ve never even heard of buckets of rum and I was certainly very involved in the whole bar scene years ago.

Lake Michigan.  Still amazes me that this is a lake and not an ocean.

Mr. Andrew’s fave.

What a great day!  xo
